I grew up in a blue-collar town in Weymouth, MA. I am the proud daughter of Penny and Muggsie. Penny is the finance director of a non-profit housing organization and Muggsie is a reformed troublemaker/construction laborer (Local 223 - Dorchester, MA). I have two brothers (both are public school teachers) and a sister who works in finance and is in charge of resiliency which makes sense because she is the most resilient person I know. My girlfriend, the kindest soul and best note-giver in town, has been putting up with me for seventeen years.
I went to college on the G.I. Bill. I studied screenwriting, psychology, and sociology in Boston. I worked as a social worker and as a first responder for the national runaway hotline. Yes, I have lots of stories from that time. I was also a Sergeant in the Army National Guard. I graduated with honors and learned that I could run when I needed to, which was a lot. I worked in the Signal Battalion as a multichannel communications operator, and I was a training instructor for eight years.
Other things I've done for work: cleaned office buildings, dispatched roadside assistance calls, stuffed envelopes at an incredible pace, asset management (they made me fly across the country in a suit, I hate suits), inventory specialist (there was nothing special about it), office temp, cracked walnuts for novelty sculptures (long story), assistant to some billionaires (and yes, lots of stories from that time too), nurse's aide (a very hard job), construction (thanks, Muggsie), sold my platelets, bartender, tutor, waitress, and many other things that allowed me to meet an endless cast of characters.
In Los Angeles, I trained at The Groundlings and LA Comedy Connection. I graduated from the Second City Writing Program and was a member of the Second City Conservatory. Along with other Second City Alumni, we formed the sketch group, The Real Boobs, where we wrote and performed our own material. I’ve been a volunteer working in an after-school program in North Hollywood, a mentor for Young Storytellers in L.A., and I am a member of V.M.E. (Veterans in Media & Entertainment).
I’m a big fan of resilient underdogs and anyone who stands up for someone else. I got that from Penny and Muggsie. And family? It's everything to me.
